Current Status of EUS and Pancreatic Cystic Neoplasms: From Diagnosis to Treatment Cyst Fluid Markers for Differential Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cystic Neoplasms: Beyond CEA

چکیده
Despite the remarkable advances in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, their ability to differentiate pancreatic cystic lesions and to determine the presence of malignancy still remains uncertain.1 Although endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) provides detailed imaging of the pancreatic cystic lesions, the imaging features alone do not seem sufficient to differentiate benign from malignant lesions.2 EUS provides a platform for fine-needle aspiration (FNA), which enables the aspiration and subsequent analysis of pancreatic cyst fluid. In this chapter, we will discuss the utility of pancreatic cyst fluid analysis in the evaluation of pancreatic cystic lesions. We will focus on the use of cyst fluid analysis in the differentiation between mucinous and non-mucinous cysts as well as in the detection of malignancy.

Role of endoscopic ultrasonography in the diagnosis and treatment of cystic tumors of the pancreas.
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) allows high resolution imaging of the pancreas. EUS is a very useful technique for evaluating morphological features of a cystic tumors of the pancreas. These features include thick wall type, tumor protruding type, thick septal type, microcystic type, thin septal type and simple type. Malignant cystic lesions may present as a hypoechoic cystic/solid mass or as a com...

An increased number of pancreatic cysts are being diagnosed due to the increased usage of cross-sectional imaging. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology and molecular analysis of these cystic lesions have led to their better detection and characterization. The aim of this review is to assess the value of cyst fluid analysis for the differential diagnosis of pa...
متن کاملDiagnosis of pancreatic cystic neoplasms: a report of the cooperative pancreatic cyst study.
BACKGROUND & AIMS Cysts of the pancreas display a wide spectrum of histology, including inflammatory (pseudocysts), benign (serous), premalignant (mucinous), and malignant (mucinous) lesions. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) may offer a diagnostic tool through the combination of imaging and guided, fine-needle aspiration (FNA). The purpose of this investigation was to determine the most accurat...
متن کاملRole of biochemistry and cytological analysis of cyst fluid for the differential diagnosis of pancreatic cysts
BACKGROUND Management of pancreatic cysts is based on neoplastic-nonneoplastic discrimination. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) enables to differentiate neoplastic-nonneoplastic lesions and also allows fine-needle aspiration (FNA). In this study, we aim to assess feasibility and clinical relevance of cytological and biochemical analysis in differential diagnosis of cystic pancreatic lesions in patie...
متن کاملEndoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration and cyst fluid analysis for pancreatic cysts.
CONTEXT Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with EUS-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) has been increasingly utilized to differentiate malignant/pre-malignant pancreatic cysts from those that are benign or have low malignant potential. OBJECTIVE To determine the utility of EUS morphology, EUS-FNA cytology and cyst fluid analysis to distinguish mucinous cystic neoplasms from non-mucinous cystic ...
